ABOUT US
We grow our ginseng in select areas of mature hardwood forest on our 100 acre farm
in South Central Ontario, Canada where conditions meet the requirements of
WILD SIMULATED American ginseng (panax quinquefolia).
BSM Ginseng has done many years of well documented soil analysis including moisture
content, and temperature research in areas throughout Central Ontario where we
have found wild growing. This research has given us the knowledge necessary
to grow the highest quality WILD SIMULATED American ginseng.
We are offering our one, two, three and four year old WILD SIMULATED roots
to you as transplants. Six+ year old dried roots, plus green and stratified seeds
are also available.
HISTORY
American ginseng (panax quinquefolia) has enjoyed a relatively short popularity of only
300 years in North America, but over 5,000 years in Asia. American ginseng began to be
harvested in the wild in the early 1700's by Indians in Montreal which then was exported to
China by Jesuit priests. It then took thirty years for Americans to get into the ginseng trade.
Due to the fact that the wild root often takes on surprisingly human form, complete with
offshoots that resemble arms and legs, it has also been named the "man root".
PROPERTIES
The active ingredients in ginseng are a group of compounds known as ginsenosides
(at least 29 have been identified), and they appear to have remarkable qualities that
cause them to be labelled as "adaptogens". This means they have the ability to help
open the mind, strengthen the body, increase vitality, elicit a soothing balancing response,
improve memory, extend endurance, cleanse the body of stress, fight fatigue, resist disease,
bolster immunity, balance metabolism, prevent headaches, treat sleep disorders,
menopause symptoms in women, and sexual dysfunction for both sexes.
Recent Canadian research has proven the benefits of American ginseng in balancing
blood sugar of Type II diabetics. With the epidemic of diabetes that our country is
facing, it is encouraging to see an increase in good quality studies evaluating the
effectiveness of alternative methods for control of this disease.
We recommend consulting your doctor before taking any supplement.
